Ready for business travel

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14-inch laptop built for professionals who need a durable Windows 10 Pro machine with integrated 4G LTE WWAN. It combines an Intel Core i5-8250U processor, 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 2 TB PCIe NVMe SSD in a chassis tested against 21 MIL-SPEC standards.

Thermals and daily power

The 1.60 GHz quad-core CPU boosts to 3.40 GHz while Intel UHD 620 graphics handle routine visual tasks without a discrete GPU. Typical office workloads keep the system quiet, and the 14.0-inch IPS FHD matte panel draws modest power for extended unplugged sessions.

Upgrade perspective

This unit replaces an older ultraportable that lacks Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, a fingerprint reader or a high-capacity NVMe drive. The jump is worth it when you need single-cable docking at 40 Gbps, hardware-secured login and 2 TB of fast local storage in a sub-2.9 lb package.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2TB NVMe SSD and which step is often missed?

The 2TB NVMe SSD is already installed from the factory; the step people miss is checking the BIOS to confirm the drive is detected and set as the first boot device.

What maintenance or replacement will the 8GB DDR4 memory need later?

The 8GB DDR4 memory is soldered to the board and cannot be upgraded; if more capacity is required the only option is to replace the entire system board.

What limit appears first on the Core i5-8250U during sustained heavy workloads?

The processor reaches its thermal ceiling and reduces clock speeds below the 3.4 GHz maximum turbo to stay within its power envelope.
