Business laptop for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14.0 inch Windows 10 Pro notebook built around an Intel Core i5-8250U processor running at 1.60 GHz with a 3.40 GHz boost. It carries 12 GB of DDR4 memory and a 500 GB SSD. The matte IPS display shows 1920 x 1080 resolution. Integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics handle everyday visual tasks. A fingerprint reader and webcam cover support secure sign-in and privacy.

Thermals noise and power in daily work

The chassis weighs between 2 and 2.9 lbs and has passed 21 MIL-SPEC tests for reliability in harsh environments. Under typical office loads the cooling system keeps the processor near its base frequency without excessive fan noise. Integrated graphics and the efficient 8250U architecture help maintain modest power draw during document editing, video calls and web browsing.

Accessories and software that change the experience

Thunderbolt over USB-C delivers up to 40 Gbps bandwidth for high-speed docks, external storage or dual 4K displays while supplying power. Bluetooth 4.1 connects peripherals without cables. The backlit keyboard and ThinkPad UltraNav touchpad improve input comfort in low light. A 4-in-1 card reader simplifies media transfer. Built-in 4G LTE WWAN keeps the system online away from Wi-Fi.

Questions about this item

How do I install the WWAN module and what step is often missed?

Insert the card into the M.2 slot, attach the two antenna cables to the labelled connectors, then enable the 4G LTE WWAN in BIOS before Windows loads.

Which component will need replacement first and how do I identify it?

The internal battery degrades after several hundred charge cycles; check its health in Lenovo Vantage and order the correct FRU when capacity drops below 80 %.

What thermal limit appears first during a long compile or render?

The i5-8250U hits its 3.4 GHz turbo ceiling and then throttles to 1.60 GHz once the cooling solution saturates.
