Lenovo ThinkPad T480s business laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14.0 inch business laptop running Windows 10 Pro. It uses an Intel Core i5-8250U processor at 1.60 GHz with a turbo up to 3.40 GHz. The system includes 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 1 TB SSD. The matte IPS display shows 1920 x 1080 resolution without touch input. Integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics handle the visual output.

Built for mobile professionals needing security

This laptop suits professionals who need a durable, security-focused machine for travel and office work. The fingerprint reader and webcam cover protect data on the move. MIL-SPEC testing confirms physical toughness. Buyers who want a touchscreen, discrete graphics or user-upgradeable memory should look elsewhere because this model lacks those features.

Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C for fast docking

The single specification that decides fit is the Thunderbolt 3 capability over USB-C at 40 Gbps. It delivers four times the data bandwidth of standard USB-C and supports video and power through one cable. If your workflow depends on high-speed external storage, dual 4K monitors or a single-cable dock, this port makes the T480s compatible. Without that need, a simpler port arrangement would suffice.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 1TB SSD and what step is often missed?

The 1TB SSD fits the internal M.2 slot; the step often missed is reinstalling the bottom cover screws in the correct torque sequence so the thermal pad makes full contact.

What maintenance will the 8GB DDR4 memory need later?

The 8GB DDR4 is soldered and cannot be upgraded; maintenance is limited to keeping vents clear so the integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics stay cool under load.

What limit appears first during sustained use of the i5-8250U at 3.40 GHz?

Thermal throttling on the 14.0 inch chassis typically activates before the 40 Gbps Thunderbolt 3 link or 4.1 Bluetooth radio reach their limits.
