ThinkPad T480s with i7-8550U and 16GB RAM

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a new 14-inch business laptop equipped with an Intel Core i7-8550U processor, 16GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB PCIe NVMe solid-state drive. It runs Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and features a 1920 x 1080 IPS matte display with integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics.

Suited for Windows 7 environments

This configuration targets professionals who require a portable 14.0-inch chassis with a fingerprint reader, Thunderbolt 3 connectivity and Bluetooth 4.1 for existing peripherals. Buyers who need a modern supported operating system or a touchscreen interface should look at alternative models.

Standard laptop setup with internal soldered memory

Initial configuration involves user account creation and driver updates for the 64-bit Windows 7 Pro installation. The 16GB DDR4 capacity is not user-expandable, so memory upgrades cannot be performed later. Thunderbolt 3 cables and docks must be certified for 40 Gbps operation to avoid reduced bandwidth or charging issues.

Questions about this item

Does the T480s need an external dock or port replicator for the Intel Core i7-8550U and 16 GB DDR4 to function?

No, the processor and memory are built into the laptop; it operates fully on its own.

Can I keep using my older USB-A peripherals with the four USB ports on this ThinkPad?

Yes, the four USB ports accept standard USB-A plugs so existing mice, keyboards and drives work directly.

How do I verify the 512 GB NVMe SSD and Intel UHD 620 graphics are active after first boot?

Open Device Manager — the SSD appears under Disk Drives and the UHD 620 under Display Adapters.
