Business ultraportable with legacy OS

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s ships new with Windows 7 Professional and an Intel Core i7-8550U processor reaching 4.0 GHz. It carries 24 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB NVMe SSD in a 14.0 inch matte IPS panel at 1920 x 1080. A fingerprint reader and 4G LTE WWAN complete the mobile workstation kit.

Upgrade from older 8th-gen dual-core ultrabooks

The quad-core 8550U replaces earlier two-core U-series chips, cutting compile times and heavy spreadsheet recalculations. The jump is worth it when workloads exceed 16 GB RAM or need NVMe latency, but buyers who want more storage than 256 GB or a newer supported OS should look elsewhere.

Thunderbolt 3 dock-ready chassis

One USB-C port carries Thunderbolt 3 at 40 Gbps for dual 4K displays, external GPU enclosures or a single-cable dock while charging. The 2.9 lb frame includes four USB ports total, Bluetooth 4.1 and a 720p webcam with ThinkShutter. Builders who need a second internal drive bay or discrete graphics cannot add them.

Questions about this item

Does the 14.0" 1920x1080 display fit a standard 14-inch laptop sleeve?

Yes, the 14.0 inch form factor matches common 14-inch sleeve dimensions.

How is the 24GB DDR4 memory installed, and what step is often missed?

The 24GB DDR4 is soldered and non-upgradable; the common error is buying SO-DIMMs expecting an empty slot.

What replacement will the 256GB NVMe SSD need later?

The 256GB NVMe drive is the only user-replaceable storage; swap it for a larger NVMe module when capacity runs low.
