Business ultraportable with 8th-gen Core i7

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14-inch mainstream laptop built around an Intel Core i7-8550U running at 1.80 GHz with a 4.0 GHz boost. It ships with 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 128 GB SSD. The matte IPS panel shows 1920 x 1080 resolution. Windows 7 Professional 64-bit is pre-installed.

Thunderbolt 3 at 40 Gbps over USB-C

A single Thunderbolt 3 port delivers up to 40 Gbps of bandwidth for data and video while supplying power. The standard uses the USB-C connector, so legacy USB-A devices need adapters or a dock. Four USB ports in total provide fallback connectivity for older peripherals.

Replaces bulkier workstations for mobile

The 2.9 lb chassis passes 21 MIL-SPEC tests for durability in harsh conditions. Integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics handles office workloads but not sustained 3D rendering or modern gaming. Buyers who need discrete GPU performance or larger local storage should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 8 GB DDR4 or the 128 GB SSD first?

They serve different roles: the 8 GB DDR4 memory runs programs, while the 128 GB SSD stores the OS and files. Both are fixed in this unit.

What does the i7-8550U reaching 4.0 GHz actually deliver?

The quad-core processor boosts to 4.0 GHz for short bursts, speeding up Office, browsing and light creative tasks on the 14" IPS display.

What can the Thunderbolt port really do at 40 Gbps?

The Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port moves data at up to 40 Gbps, drives two 4K screens and charges the laptop through one cable.
