Business Laptop for Mobile Professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14-inch business laptop running Windows 7 Professional. It combines an Intel Core i7-8550U processor with 12GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB SSD. The matte IPS display delivers 1920 x 1080 resolution, while a fingerprint reader and webcam cover support secure logins.

Upgrade From Older Ultraportables

This model replaces ageing 14-inch systems that lack modern I/O and quick storage. The jump is worth it when you need Thunderbolt connectivity at 40 Gbps, a 1TB solid-state drive and 12GB of RAM for heavier multitasking. MIL-SPEC testing across 21 standards adds confidence for daily travel.

Straightforward Deployment

Windows 7 Professional is pre-installed on the 64-bit platform, so the laptop is ready for managed environments immediately. The UltraNav touchpad and backlit keyboard require no driver hunting. The main friction point is the older operating system, which limits future software compatibility and security updates.

Questions about this item

What are the physical dimensions and weight range for the 14.0-inch T480s to confirm it fits my bag?

The 14.0-inch ThinkPad T480s weighs between 2 and 2.9 lbs, making it suitable for most standard laptop bags and sleeves designed for 14-inch ultraportables.

How do I correctly install the optional fingerprint reader on this T480s, and what step is commonly missed?

The fingerprint reader is factory-integrated into the palm rest; the step users miss is enrolling fingerprints in Windows 7 Pro after the first boot to activate the match-on-chip security.

Which components in this T480s will likely need replacement or maintenance over time?

The 12GB DDR4 memory is soldered and not upgradeable, while the 1TB SSD can be replaced later; the 64-bit Windows 7 Pro OS will eventually require an upgrade for continued security updates.
