Business ultraportable for Windows 7 workflows

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a new 14-inch laptop built around an Intel Core i7-8550U processor running at 1.80 GHz with a 4.0 GHz maximum turbo. It ships with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB SSD. The 1920 x 1080 IPS matte panel, fingerprint reader and backlit keyboard target professionals who need a lightweight, durable machine for legacy software environments.

Upgrade from older 14-inch business notebooks

Compared with earlier dual-core ultraportables, the quad-core 8550U delivers a clear jump in multi-threaded throughput for office suites, virtual machines and compiled code. The move is worthwhile when your current system throttles under sustained loads or lacks the 16 GB memory ceiling this unit provides. Buyers who need discrete graphics, larger storage arrays or a newer Windows licence should look elsewhere.

Straightforward deployment with one legacy caveat

Windows 7 Professional installs cleanly on the 64-bit UEFI platform and the integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics initialise without extra drivers. Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C and Bluetooth 4.1 connect docks and peripherals immediately. The only common friction point is maintaining Windows 7 security updates, which now require extended support agreements or third-party patch management.

Questions about this item

Will the 14" chassis fit in a standard 14-inch laptop sleeve?

The 14.0" display sits in a compact 2 - 2.9 lbs. body, so most 14-inch sleeves accommodate it.

How do I install the Windows 7 Pro 64-bit OS on the 256GB SSD?

The OS is pre-installed on the SSD; first boot only requires accepting the licence terms and creating a user account.

When will the 16GB DDR4 memory need upgrading?

The 16GB DDR4 is soldered and not user-upgradeable; plan capacity needs at purchase.
