Built for business professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad T490 is a 14.0-inch notebook designed for serious business users who need reliable mobile productivity. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i5-8265U quad-core processor with a base speed of 1.6 GHz and Turbo Boost up to 3.9 GHz. The 8GB DDR4 memory and 1TB NVMe SSD provide responsive multitasking and fast storage access.

Sustained workload behaviour

Under continuous load the processor can reach 3.9 GHz using Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 technology to maintain performance across extended sessions. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles everyday visual tasks without a discrete GPU. The IPS display delivers 250 cd/m2 brightness and a 700:1 contrast ratio, remaining legible during long work periods.

Chassis, ports and daily use

The black chassis includes a fingerprint reader for secure login and a 720p webcam for video calls. Connectivity covers HDMI, Thunderbolt, LAN, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for peripherals and networks. The non-touch FHD IPS panel offers 170-degree viewing angles and an anti-glare finish, suited to varied lighting conditions.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the i5-8265U get when the 14" FHD laptop runs all day?

The 1.6 GHz base clock and 3.9 GHz Turbo Boost 2.0 let the quad-core processor scale power to the workload, so fan noise and heat stay proportional to what you are doing.

Which cables or docks must I already own to use the Thunderbolt and HDMI ports on this T490?

A Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock and a standard HDMI cable are all that is required; both ports are built into the chassis.

Will my older USB-A peripherals and monitors work alongside the Thunderbolt and HDMI outputs on this 14.0" notebook?

Yes, the T490 keeps legacy USB-A ports while adding Thunderbolt and HDMI, so existing mice, keyboards and external displays connect without adapters.
