Lenovo ThinkPad T490s 14.0" FHD IPS

The Lenovo ThinkPad T490s is a 14.0 inch laptop built for mobile professionals who need a reliable Windows 10 Pro device. It combines a quad-core Intel Core i7-8565U processor with 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 256GB PCIe SSD for responsive everyday performance. The anti-glare IPS panel delivers a 1920 x 1080 resolution at 250 nits brightness. A fingerprint reader with match-on-chip technology adds hardware-based security.

Best for portable office work not creative rendering

This configuration suits users who prioritise a lightweight chassis, long battery life and a comfortable keyboard for document editing, email and web-based applications. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics relies on shared system memory, so it handles external displays and video playback well. Buyers who want more storage or discrete graphics for 3D rendering, video editing or gaming should look at other models. The non-touch screen also means stylus or direct manipulation workflows are not supported.

8GB soldered DDR4 limits future upgrades

The single specification that decides suitability is the 8GB DDR4 2400 memory, which is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be expanded. If your workload regularly exceeds 8GB — such as running multiple virtual machines, large datasets or heavy multitasking — this laptop will bottleneck performance. Buyers comfortable with a fixed 8GB capacity will find the quad-core processor and fast PCIe SSD deliver a smooth experience for typical business tasks.
