Carbon-fibre ultraportable for mobile professionals

The fifth-generation ThinkPad X1 Carbon combines a carbon-fibre reinforced chassis with a magnesium roll-cage, passing 12 military-grade requirements and more than 200 durability tests while weighing 2.49 lbs. It targets business users who need a rugged yet lightweight 14.0" laptop for frequent travel.

1 TB solid-state drive as the capacity anchor

A single 1 TB SSD provides the primary storage pool; no mechanical hard drive is present. The 8 GB of system memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded, so buyers who need more RAM or a second drive bay must look elsewhere.

4G LTE WWAN plus Thunderbolt 3 expand connectivity

An integrated 4G LTE WWAN card adds mobile broadband without a dongle, while Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C delivers up to 40 Gbps data and video bandwidth. Windows 10 Pro, a fingerprint reader and Bluetooth 4.1 complete the ready-to-deploy package.

Questions about this item

What does the 3.9 GHz maximum turbo frequency of the Intel Core i7-7600U mean for everyday workloads?

The processor can temporarily reach 3.9 GHz on one or both cores when thermal headroom allows, speeding up bursty tasks such as compiling code or opening large spreadsheets before returning to its base clock.

What does the Thunderbolt 3 port capped at 40 Gbps enable in practice?

It delivers up to 40 Gbps of data bandwidth and supports dual 4K video output, allowing a single cable to drive high-speed storage, docks and external displays simultaneously.

What are the physical dimensions and mounting requirements for the 14.0 inch WQHD display panel?

The 14.0 inch IPS panel fits the standard X1 Carbon 5 chassis with a 2560 x 1440 resolution and does not require additional mounting hardware beyond the integrated hinge assembly.
