ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 business ultrabook

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 is a 14-inch business ultrabook running Windows 10 Pro. It combines an Intel Core i7-7500U processor with 8 GB of memory and a 256 GB NVMe PCIe SSD. The carbon-fibre reinforced chassis passes 12 military-grade requirements and more than 200 durability tests.

Professionals needing a light.

This ultrabook suits mobile professionals who value a tested rugged chassis, a fingerprint reader and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity at up to 40 Gbps. Buyers who need a touchscreen, more than 8 GB of memory or a larger display should look at other configurations.

256 GB NVMe PCIe SSD capacity

The single specification that decides fit is the 256 GB NVMe PCIe SSD. It determines how much local data, applications and projects the laptop can hold without external drives.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 256GB NVMe SSD and which step is commonly missed?

The SSD mounts in the internal M.2 slot; the step people forget is removing the bottom cover screws before lifting the panel.

What maintenance will the 8GB memory need later?

The memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded; only driver updates keep it running optimally.

What limit appears first during sustained loads on the Core i7-7500U?

Thermal throttling at the 3.5 GHz turbo ceiling reduces clocks before the 40 Gbps Thunderbolt link saturates.
