Carbon 5 Ultrabook with 4G LTE

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 is a 14-inch mainstream ultrabook powered by an Intel Core i7-7500U processor reaching 3.5 GHz, 8 GB of memory and a 512 GB NVMe PCIe SSD. It ships new with Windows 7 Professional and a built-in 4G LTE WWAN card for mobile broadband. The non-touch FHD IPS panel runs at 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Professionals needing always-connected mobility

Workers who value integrated 4G LTE, a fingerprint reader, Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C and a chassis tested against 12 military-grade requirements will find the feature set aligned. Buyers who need a touchscreen, discrete graphics or a newer operating system should look elsewhere.

512 GB NVMe PCIe SSD decides fit

The single drive is a 512 GB NVMe PCIe unit with no secondary storage bay mentioned. If that capacity covers the working set and local backup needs, the laptop fits; if more internal space is required, the configuration cannot be expanded.

Questions about this item

Does the Thunderbolt 3 port deliver 40Gbps bandwidth for data and video?

The Thunderbolt 3 interface supports up to 40Gbps, providing four times the data and twice the video bandwidth of a standard USB-C connection for compatible docks and displays.

What are the exact dimensions and weight for a laptop sleeve?

The X1 Carbon 5 weighs 2.49 lbs and features a 14.0" chassis built with carbon-fiber reinforced layers and a magnesium alloy roll-cage, so a sleeve sized for a 14-inch ultrabook will fit.

How is the NVMe SSD installed, and which screw size secures it?

The 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD mounts in the internal M.2 slot; remove the bottom cover, insert the drive at an angle, then press down and secure it with the single retention screw — do not overtighten.
