ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th gen 14 FHD

This laptop is a 14 inch ultraportable with a 1920 x 1080 non touch display. It runs on an Intel Core i5 8350U quad core processor reaching 3.60 GHz turbo. The system includes 8GB DDR3 memory and a new 2TB NVMe SSD. It ships with no operating system installed.

Best for portable work with fast storage

Professionals needing a light 14 inch machine for office applications and web browsing will find the specification adequate. The soldered 8GB DDR3 cannot be upgraded so users who run virtual machines or large datasets should consider other options. Gamers and video editors will find the integrated UHD Graphics 620 limiting.

Soldered 8GB DDR3 memory limit

The memory is not expandable because there are zero memory slots available. The platform supports a maximum of 16 GB but the installed 8GB is fixed. Buyers who anticipate needing more than 8GB of RAM must choose a different model.

Questions about this item

Does the 14.0 inch chassis have an M.2 slot free for a second NVMe drive?

The storage spec lists a single 2TB NVMe drive and the memory slot total is zero, so no extra M.2 slot is available for another NVMe drive

How is the operating system installed on the new 2TB NVMe drive?

The laptop ships with no operating system; create a bootable USB installer for Windows or Linux, boot from it, and install the OS onto the 2TB NVMe drive

Can the 8GB DDR3 memory be upgraded later?

The memory slot total is zero and max memory supported is 16GB, meaning the 8GB DDR3 is soldered and cannot be upgraded later
