Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2TB NVMe

This new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is a 14-inch ultrabook with a 2TB NVMe PCIe SSD and 8GB of memory. It runs Windows 7 Professional on an Intel Core i7-7600U processor up to 3.9 GHz. The FHD IPS display shows 1920 x 1080 resolution. It weighs 2.49 lbs and includes Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C plus Bluetooth 4.1.

Mobile professionals needing large local storage

The 2TB NVMe drive suits users who keep large project files or media libraries on the device. The carbon-fiber chassis passes 12 military-grade requirements and more than 200 durability tests. Buyers who want a touchscreen or more than 8GB of RAM should look elsewhere. The non-touch FHD panel and soldered memory limit those configurations.

2TB NVMe PCIe SSD capacity

The single specification that decides fit is the 2TB NVMe PCIe SSD. It provides high-capacity solid-state storage in the M.2 form factor. If your workload requires more than 2TB of internal space or a second drive bay, this laptop cannot meet that need. The 8GB memory is also fixed and not upgradeable.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 2 TB NVMe-PCIe SSD version or a smaller drive?

The 2 TB NVMe-PCIe SSD gives you plenty of room for large projects and local backups, while the 8 GB of soldered memory is fixed and cannot be upgraded later.

What does the 3.9 GHz turbo figure mean in daily use?

The Core i7-7600U can reach 3.9 GHz for short bursts, so single-threaded tasks like opening apps or compiling small code bases feel snappy, but sustained loads will run at lower clocks.

What can the Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port actually do?

The Thunderbolt 3 port delivers up to 40 Gbps of data bandwidth, supports two 4K displays and handles charging, so one cable can drive a dock, monitors and power simultaneously.
