ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 is a new 14-inch ultrabook with an Intel Core i7-7500U processor reaching 3.5 GHz. It includes 8GB of memory, a 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD, and a non-touch FHD IPS display at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Windows 7 Professional comes pre-installed.

Mobile professionals needing a durable lightweight

This laptop suits users who value a carbon-fibre reinforced chassis tested against 12 military-grade requirements and passing more than 200 durability tests while weighing 2.49 lbs. It is not for buyers who want a touchscreen, require more than 8GB of memory, or need a modern operating system beyond Windows 7 Pro.

512GB NVMe storage and Thunderbolt connectivity

The 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD provides fast boot and application loading for typical business workloads. Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C delivers up to 40Gbps bandwidth for external drives or docks. The 8GB memory and dual-core processor run out of headroom with heavy multitasking or demanding creative applications.

Questions about this item

What existing power adapter or dock do I need to charge this laptop over USB-C?

The laptop supports USB Type-C charging with Thunderbolt 3 at up to 40 Gbps, so any USB-C power source that delivers Power Delivery voltage negotiation will charge it.

Will my older USB-A mice, keyboards and flash drives work with the four USB ports on this unit?

Yes, the four USB ports accept standard USB-A plugs, so legacy peripherals connect directly without adapters.

How can I confirm the fingerprint reader is active after I set up Windows 7 Pro?

Open the Lenovo fingerprint utility in Control Panel, enroll a finger, then lock the screen — successful unlock with the enrolled finger proves the sensor is working.
