ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 with 4G LTE WWAN

This laptop is a mainstream ultrabook built for professionals who need integrated mobile broadband. It ships new with Windows 10 Pro and an Intel Core i7-7600U processor reaching 3.9 GHz. The 14.0 inch FHD IPS panel shows 1920 x 1080 resolution without touch input. Storage is a 1TB NVMe SSD paired with 8GB of memory.

Installation and common issues

The system arrives ready to use with the operating system pre-installed on the NVMe drive. Four USB ports including Thunderbolt 3 simplify docking and peripheral connection. The 4G LTE WWAN card is factory fitted so no internal hardware work is required. Memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded after purchase.

Limits of Thunderbolt 3 and Bluetooth 4.1

Thunderbolt 3 on USB-C delivers up to 40Gbps for data and video while also handling charging duties. Bluetooth 4.1 supports legacy peripherals but lacks the range and throughput of newer versions. The 4G LTE modem depends on carrier coverage and an active data plan for connectivity. The 8GB RAM ceiling restricts heavy multitasking or virtualisation workloads.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the 4G LTE WWAN card is active after Windows 10 Pro setup?

Open Settings, choose Network & Internet, then Cellular; a signal strength meter and carrier name will appear when the 4G LTE WWAN card is connected.

What ships in the box and what must I source separately for the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5?

The laptop, its AC adapter and documentation are included; a nano-SIM card and a compatible cellular data plan are not supplied.

Which configuration should I pick if I need the 1 TB NVMe PCIe SSD and 8 GB RAM?

This single SKU already provides the 1 TB NVMe PCIe SSD and 8 GB RAM, so no alternative capacity version exists to choose from.
