ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 for professionals

This 14.0-inch ultrabook weighs 2.49 lbs and runs Windows 7 Professional on an Intel Core i7-7600U processor reaching 3.9 GHz. The WQHD IPS display shows 2560 x 1440 resolution, while 8GB of memory and a 1TB NVMe SSD handle daily workloads. A fingerprint reader and Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C complete the feature set.

Suits mobile workers needing a light, tough chassis

Buyers who need a touchscreen should look elsewhere because this model has a non-touch screen. The 8GB memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded, so users who require more RAM must choose a different system. Windows 7 Professional is no longer supported by Microsoft, which affects security-conscious deployments.

The 1TB NVMe SSD decides fit

This single drive provides the only internal storage and uses the NVMe protocol over PCIe. No 2.5-inch bay or second M.2 slot exists, so capacity cannot be expanded after purchase. Verify that 1TB meets the project's storage needs before ordering.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 1 TB NVMe SSD or add a second drive?

The laptop ships with a single 1 TB NVMe SSD and no hard drive bay, so the installed drive is the only internal storage.

What does the 3.9 GHz boost clock mean for everyday work?

The i7-7600U can reach 3.9 GHz on one core for short bursts, so office apps and web pages feel quick, while heavier loads run at lower speeds to manage heat.

What can the Thunderbolt 3 port actually do?

The USB-C port supports Thunderbolt 3 at up to 40 Gbps, allowing fast data transfer, video output and charging through the same connector.
