14-inch ThinkPad for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 is a 14.0-inch ultrabook built around an Intel Core i7-7600U processor that reaches 3.9 GHz. It ships with 8GB of memory and a 500GB SSD running Windows 7 Professional. The carbon-fiber reinforced chassis weighs 2.49 lbs and passes more than 200 durability tests against 12 military-grade requirements.

Sustained workloads on a thin carbon chassis

Under continuous load the i7-7600U operates within its thermal envelope without the bulk of larger workstations. The 8GB memory capacity handles typical business multitasking while the solid-state drive keeps application launches responsive. Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C supplies up to 40 Gbps for external storage or docks, so sustained file transfers do not bottleneck at the port.

Practical limits of the Thunderbolt 3 interface

Thunderbolt 3 delivers four times the data bandwidth of earlier USB-C implementations and supports dual 4K video streams, but the laptop provides only 8GB of soldered memory and a single 500GB drive. Buyers who need more storage or memory cannot upgrade internally, and the Windows 7 Professional licence reaches end-of-support status for security updates.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the Core i7-7600U get when the X1 Carbon runs all day?

The Core i7-7600U reaches up to 3.9 GHz and the chassis passes more than 200 durability tests, so thermals stay controlled during extended use.

What must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3 port on this X1 Carbon?

You need a Thunderbolt 3-enabled device and a compatible USB-C cable to reach 40 Gbps data and charging speeds.

Will the Bluetooth 4.1 module connect reliably to my older wireless mouse and keyboard?

Bluetooth 4.1 maintains backward compatibility with earlier Bluetooth peripherals, so older mice and keyboards pair without issue.
