Carbon-fibre ultraportable for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 is a 14.0-inch Windows 10 Pro laptop built on a carbon-fibre reinforced chassis that passes 12 military-grade requirements and more than 200 durability tests. It weighs 2.49 lbs and is powered by an Intel Core i7-7600U processor reaching 3.9 GHz, aimed at users who need a resilient yet light daily driver.

1 TB PCIe NVMe storage with 8 GB soldered memory

The 1 TB NVMe drive provides ample room for operating system, applications and large project files without relying on external media. Eight gigabytes of memory handles typical office multitasking and light creative work, but the capacity is fixed and cannot be expanded for heavier workloads such as virtual machines or large dataset analysis.

Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C at 40 Gbps

A single USB-C port carries Thunderbolt 3, delivering up to 40 Gbps data throughput and dual 4K video bandwidth for docks or external GPUs. The remaining three USB ports and Bluetooth 4.1 cover legacy peripherals, though the single Thunderbolt lane limits daisy-chaining high-bandwidth devices simultaneously.

Questions about this item

Will the USB Type-C charging and Thunderbolt 3 port work with my older USB-A dock?

The laptop has four USB ports including USB Type-C with Thunderbolt 3 for charging and data. You will need a USB-C to USB-A adapter or a Thunderbolt 3 dock to connect older USB-A peripherals.

How can I confirm the Intel Core i7-7600U is reaching its 3.9 GHz turbo speed under load?

Open Task Manager in Windows 10 Pro, go to the Performance tab, and watch the CPU clock speed while running a heavy task. It should show frequencies up to 3.9 GHz on the two cores when thermal headroom allows.

Does the box include a Thunderbolt 3 cable for the USB Type-C port?

The system ships with Windows 10 Pro, a 14" FHD IPS display, 1TB PCIe SSD, 8GB RAM, fingerprint reader, and the standard power adapter. A Thunderbolt 3 cable is not included and must be purchased separately.
