ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 is a 14 inch ultrabook built for professionals who need a durable, lightweight system running Windows 7 Professional. It combines an Intel Core i7-7600U processor with 8GB of memory and a 1TB SSD for responsive everyday computing. The non-touch FHD IPS display delivers a 1920 x 1080 resolution in a compact chassis that weighs just 2.49 lbs.

Sustained performance with Intel Core i7-7600U

The dual-core Intel Core i7-7600U processor reaches speeds up to 3.9 GHz to handle extended workloads such as document editing, web browsing and video conferencing without thermal throttling in typical office conditions. Eight gigabytes of system memory supports multitasking across several business applications simultaneously. The 1TB solid-state drive provides ample space for large project files and ensures fast boot and load times during long sessions.

Carbon-fiber chassis tested to 12 military-grade

Four layers of carbon-fiber reinforced material and a magnesium alloy roll-cage create a rigid frame that passes more than 200 durability checks while keeping weight below 2.9 lbs. A fingerprint reader integrated into the chassis adds biometric security for daily sign-in. Connectivity includes Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C for 40Gbps data and charging, standard USB ports and Bluetooth 4.1 for wireless peripherals.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the ThinkPad X1 Carbon get when the Intel Core i7-7600U runs at 3.9 GHz all day?

The carbon-fiber chassis passes 12 military-grade requirements and 200 durability tests while weighing 2.49 lbs, so sustained loads stay within thermal limits without excessive fan noise.

Which cables or peripherals must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3 port for charging and 40 Gbps data?

You need a Thunderbolt 3-certified cable or dock with a USB-C connector; standard USB-C cables will not deliver the 40 Gbps bandwidth or charging capability.

Will my older USB 3.0 devices and monitors work with the USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port on this X1 Carbon?

Yes, the Thunderbolt 3 port is backward compatible with USB 3.0 peripherals and DisplayPort monitors, though they will operate at their native speeds rather than 40 Gbps.
