12.5-inch touch business laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad X220 is a 12.5-inch business laptop with a touchscreen display and an included pen. It runs Windows 10 Professional 64-bit on an Intel Core i7-2640M processor with a turbo frequency of 3.50 GHz. The system ships with 4GB of DDR3 memory and a 500GB hard disk drive.

Check ports, memory and storage needs

Verify that the three USB ports and the single VGA and DisplayPort outputs match your peripheral requirements. The 4GB of DDR3 RAM and 500GB mechanical drive are the installed capacities; consider whether your workload demands more memory or solid-state storage. The 10/100/1000Mbps LAN and 802.11b/g/n wireless provide wired and wireless connectivity.

Suits mobile professionals needing pen input

This laptop suits mobile professionals who value the ThinkPad keyboard, a touchscreen with pen support and a docking connector for shared workspaces. Buyers who want more storage capacity, faster solid-state performance or a higher-resolution display should look at other models. The shared video memory and HD 1366x768 panel limit suitability for graphics-intensive tasks.

Should I choose the i7-2640M version or a different processor for this X220?

What does the 3.50 GHz turbo figure mean when I am actually using the laptop?

The 3.50 GHz turbo is the maximum single-core speed the i7-2640M can reach under load; sustained speeds will be lower depending on the workload and thermal limits of the 12.5 inch chassis.
