Compact business laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad X220 is a 12.5-inch touchscreen laptop built for mobile professionals. It runs Windows 7 Home Premium on an Intel Core i7-2640M processor with a turbo frequency of 3.5 GHz. The system includes 4GB of DDR3 memory and a 128GB solid-state drive. A pen tablet function supports direct input on the HD display.

Connectivity and display limits

The 1366x768 resolution panel uses shared system memory for graphics. Wireless access relies on 802.11b/g/n LAN, while wired networking tops out at 1000Mbps. Three USB ports and a docking connector handle peripherals, with video output limited to VGA and DisplayPort. No HDD bay is present.

Memory capacity decides fit

The 4GB DDR3 configuration is fixed and suits light office workloads and legacy software. Buyers who need more memory for virtualisation or modern multitasking should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 128 GB SSD or look for a larger drive?

The unit ships with a 128 GB solid-state drive and no hard-disk bay, so the only way to add space is an external USB drive or a dock.

What does the 3.5 GHz turbo speed deliver in daily use?

The Core i7-2640M can reach 3.50 GHz on short bursts, giving snappy response for office apps and web browsing.

Will the USB 3 ports run at full 5 Gbit/s?

The three USB 3 ports support SuperSpeed transfers, though actual throughput depends on the attached device and cable quality.
