Business touch laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad X220 is a 12.5 inch business laptop with a touch display and included pen input. It runs Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit on an Intel Core i7-2640M processor with 4GB of DDR3 memory. The 320GB hard drive provides local storage for documents and applications. This configuration suits mobile professionals who need a durable, pen-enabled device for on-site work.

Thermals and power

The dual-core processor reaches a turbo frequency of 3.50 GHz under load while the integrated graphics use shared system memory. A single docking connector allows quick connection to external monitors and peripherals without extra cable clutter. The chassis includes an Active Protection System and a redesigned hinge with magnetic-latching support for daily transport. No fan dimensions or acoustic figures are supplied by the manufacturer.

Storage constraint

The 320GB mechanical drive is the only internal storage and no SSD is present, so capacity and speed are limited compared to solid-state alternatives. Buyers who need more storage or faster boot times should plan for an external drive or a later upgrade. The HD display resolution is 1366x768 and video output uses one VGA and one DisplayPort connection. Wireless connectivity is provided by 802.11b/g/n and gigabit LAN.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 320GB HDD and what step is often missed?

The 320GB HDD fits in the standard 2.5-inch bay; the step people miss is seating the drive fully so the connector clicks into the motherboard before the caddy screws are tightened.

What maintenance or replacement will the 320GB HDD and 4GB DDR3 need later?

The 320GB HDD will eventually need replacement when it develops bad sectors or becomes too slow; the 4GB DDR3 module can be swapped for an 8GB stick if the system feels memory-constrained.

What limit appears first during sustained use on the Core i7-2640M?

The Core i7-2640M hits its 3.5 GHz turbo ceiling and thermal throttling activates before the 4GB DDR3 or 320GB HDD become bottlenecks.
