Compact business touch laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad X220 combines a 12.5 inch HD touch display with a Core i7-2640M processor running up to 3.50 GHz. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR3 memory and a one terabyte hard drive provide generous workspace for office applications. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit is pre-installed for immediate deployment.

Thermals noise and power in daily use

The redesigned hinge with magnetic latching keeps the chassis stable while the Active Protection System guards the drive during movement. Two microphone modes — Private Chat and Conference Call — handle different meeting sizes, and keyboard noise suppression reduces key clicks during calls. LED mute indicators give instant visual confirmation of microphone status.

Bundled tools for communication and docking

Enhanced multimedia utilities let users switch between noise-cancelling and room-pickup audio profiles without extra software. A single docking connector shares workspaces with compatible ThinkPad T, L and W series models. Three USB ports, VGA and DisplayPort outputs cover legacy and modern display needs.

Questions about this item

How do I upgrade the memory in the ThinkPad X220 and what step is often missed?

The laptop uses DDR3 memory. The step often missed is ensuring both SO-DIMM slots are populated evenly for dual-channel performance.

What maintenance will the 1TB hard drive need later?

The 1TB HDD has moving parts. Plan to back up data regularly and listen for unusual noise that signals mechanical wear.

What thermal limit appears first during sustained loads on the i7-2640M?

The processor reaches its 3.50 GHz turbo frequency, then throttles when the cooling solution cannot dissipate heat fast enough.
