ThinkPad X220 business touch laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad X220 is a 12.5-inch business laptop with a touch display and included pen, running Windows 10 Pro. It uses an Intel Core i7-2640M processor with a 3.50 GHz turbo frequency and 16GB of DDR3 memory. The system stores data on a 320GB hard drive rather than solid-state storage.

Upgrade from older Core i3

This unit replaces earlier ThinkPad models that shipped with a Core i3 2nd Gen processor and less memory. The jump is worth it when you need the higher turbo frequency and 16GB of RAM for multitasking across office applications. Buyers who want an SSD boot drive or more than 320GB of internal storage should look elsewhere.

Limits of the HD touch panel and legacy ports

The 1366x768 touchscreen uses shared system memory for graphics, which limits performance in visual workloads. Video output relies on VGA and DisplayPort connectors, while networking uses 802.11b/g/n wireless and a 10/100/1000Mbps LAN port. Three USB ports and a docking connector provide peripheral expansion within the constraints of the platform.

Questions about this item

What are the exact display dimensions and resolution of the 12.5" touchscreen on this ThinkPad X220?

The screen measures 12.5 inches diagonally with an HD resolution of 1366x768 pixels and supports touch input.

How do I dock the X220 using its proprietary connector, and what alignment mistake should I avoid?

Slide the laptop onto the docking station until the single docking connector engages firmly; forcing it off-centre can bend the pins on the port.

Can the 16GB DDR3 memory be upgraded later, and what is the maximum supported capacity?

The system comes with 16GB of DDR3 installed; the chipset supports up to 16GB total, so no further memory upgrade is possible.
