Business laptop with touch display

The Lenovo ThinkPad X220 is a 12.5 inch business laptop equipped with a 1366x768 HD touch display and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. It runs on an Intel Core i7-2640M processor with a 3.50 GHz turbo frequency and includes 4GB DDR3 memory. A 1TB hard drive provides the primary storage.

Suited for office work and legacy software

This machine suits professionals who need a compact Touch device for document editing, email and older Windows 7 applications. It is not for users who require more memory for modern multitasking, a solid-state drive for faster boot times or a higher resolution screen for detailed visual work.

The 4GB DDR3 memory decides the fit

The installed 4GB DDR3 RAM is the specification that determines whether this laptop can handle your workload. If your daily tasks run within this memory limit, the X220 delivers a familiar ThinkPad keyboard and durable chassis. If you need more capacity for current applications, you should look at a system with larger memory.

Questions about this item

How do I install the touchscreen driver on Windows 7 Home Premium for the 12.5" HD display?

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit includes the touchscreen driver for the 12.5" HD (1366x768) display; the step people miss is enabling the Tablet PC components in Programs and Features so the pen and multi-touch gestures work.

What maintenance will the 1TB HDD and 4GB DDR3 RAM need later?

The 1TB HDD benefits from periodic defragmentation and SMART health checks; the 4GB DDR3 is soldered on this X220 so it cannot be upgraded, only monitored for errors.

What limit appears first when the Core i7-2640M runs at 3.50 GHz under sustained load?

The shared system memory for video and the 4GB DDR3 ceiling become the bottleneck before the processor hits its thermal ceiling during prolonged heavy workloads.
