Business ultraportable with pen input

The ThinkPad X220 combines a 12.5-inch HD touch display with an Intel Core i7-2640M processor running up to 3.5 GHz. Eight gigabytes of DDR3 memory and a 320 GB hard drive support everyday office workloads. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed for immediate deployment.

Sustained workload behaviour

The dual-core CPU maintains 3.5 GHz turbo frequency during extended document editing, web sessions and video calls. Shared system memory handles integrated graphics without a discrete GPU. Active Protection System parks the hard drive heads if motion is detected, preserving data during transport.

Build quality and connectivity

The redesigned hinge uses stronger magnetic latching for repeated open-close cycles. A single docking connector enables shared workstations with other ThinkPad models. Ports include three USB, VGA and DisplayPort for legacy monitors, plus Gigabit LAN and 802.11 b/g/n wireless.

Questions about this item

How loud does the Core i7-2640M run during long work sessions?

The 3.50 GHz turbo processor is cooled by a standard ThinkPad fan profile; expect audible airflow under sustained load but quiet operation for typical office tasks.

Which cables or docks do I need to connect external monitors to the VGA and DisplayPort outputs?

The laptop provides one VGA and one DisplayPort; bring your own VGA or DisplayPort cables, or use the docking connector with a compatible ThinkPad dock for a single-cable desk setup.

Will my existing DDR3 memory modules work if I want to upgrade the 8 GB installed?

The system uses DDR3 SO-DIMMs; any matching DDR3 stick up to the chipset limit can be added to the free slot for a memory increase.
