Purpose and Audience

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5" business ultrabook built for mobile professionals who need a durable, touch-enabled Windows 10 Pro machine. Its carbon-fibre roll cage and MIL-SPEC testing suit users who carry their device daily and expect it to survive bumps, temperature swings and dust.

Storage and Memory Constraints

The 1 TB hard drive provides ample capacity but lacks the speed of solid-state storage, so boot times and application launches will be slower than on SSD-equipped systems. The 8 GB of DDR3 RAM is soldered and not upgradeable, limiting multitasking headroom for memory-heavy workloads or virtual machines.

Installation and Common Issues

As a sealed ultrabook, internal upgrades are not practical; only the drive bay is accessible after removing the bottom cover. Buyers should verify the Windows 10 Pro licence activates cleanly and check the touchscreen calibration, as the digitiser can drift after long storage.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 1TB HDD or look for an SSD version of the X240?

This unit ships with a 1TB hard drive and no SSD. The mechanical drive gives you a large 1TB capacity for files and applications, though an SSD would deliver faster boot and load times.

What does the Core i7-4600U's 3.3 GHz boost mean for daily work?

The dual-core processor can reach 3.3 GHz on short bursts, so office apps, web browsing and video calls run smoothly, while the 4M cache helps keep frequent data close to the cores.

Which devices can I connect through the Bluetooth 4.0 radio?

Bluetooth 4.0 pairs with mice, keyboards, headsets and phones that support the same standard, providing a low-energy link for peripherals without using a USB port.
