ThinkPad X240 business ultrabook

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5-inch business ultrabook built for mobile professionals who need a durable, lightweight Windows 8.1 Pro machine. It combines an Intel Core i7-4600U processor, 8GB of DDR3 memory and a 2TB solid-state drive with a 1920x1080 FHD IPS touch display. A fingerprint reader and backlit keyboard support secure, comfortable work in varied environments.

Verify ports, memory limits and OS needs

Confirm that two USB ports and a single headphone/microphone combo jack cover your peripheral requirements, as no other video or data interfaces are listed. The system ships with 8GB of DDR3 RAM; check whether your workloads need more capacity or if the platform can accept an upgrade. Ensure your software is compatible with Windows 8.1 Pro, which is the pre-installed operating system.

Touch display and fingerprint reader change daily

The 12.5-inch FHD IPS touchscreen adds direct on-screen control for presentations, annotation and tablet-style use without carrying a separate device. A built-in fingerprint reader enables Windows Hello-style biometric sign-in, reducing reliance on passwords. Bluetooth 4.0 provides wireless connectivity for mice, keyboards and headsets. The spill-resistant, backlit keyboard helps maintain productivity in low-light or travel situations.

Questions about this item

Does the laptop arrive with Windows 8.1 Pro already installed, or do I need to supply my own operating system?

Windows 8.1 Pro comes pre-installed, so the system is ready to use without buying or installing a separate OS.

The listing shows 8 GB of DDR3 RAM; is that the maximum supported or can I upgrade it later?

The unit ships with 8 GB of DDR3 memory soldered to the board, and there is no additional slot, so the capacity cannot be increased after purchase.

The Core i7-4600U is rated up to 3.3 GHz — will it hold that speed during sustained workloads?

The processor can reach 3.3 GHz in short bursts, but extended heavy loads will cause it to throttle below that figure to manage heat.
