Lenovo ThinkPad X240 Ultrabook

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5-inch business ultrabook built for professionals who need a durable, portable Windows 7 Pro machine. It combines an Intel Core i7-4600U processor with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a 500GB hard drive. The chassis passes MIL-SPEC testing for pressure, humidity, vibration and temperature extremes.

Sustained workload behaviour

The dual-core i7-4600U reaches 3.3 GHz turbo speeds for burst tasks but will throttle under prolonged heavy loads due to the compact thermal design. The 500GB HDD provides consistent throughput for sequential file work yet limits random-access responsiveness compared to solid-state storage. Eight gigabytes of DDR3 RAM handles typical office multitasking but saturates with large datasets or virtual machines.

Installation and common issues

The system arrives with Windows 7 Professional pre-installed so initial setup requires only user-account creation and driver verification. Bluetooth 4.0 pairs peripherals without extra dongles. Buyers needing an SSD boot drive or more than 8GB of RAM must upgrade themselves as the factory configuration lacks both. The non-removable battery complicates long-term service.

Questions about this item

How hot and loud does the Core i7-4600U get when the X240 runs all day?

The Intel Core i7-4600U is a low-power 15 W processor rated up to 3.3 GHz, designed for ultrabooks, so heat and fan noise stay modest during extended use.

What ports or accessories must I already have to connect a monitor, wired network or USB devices to this X240?

The laptop provides two USB ports and a headset jack; any external display, Ethernet or additional peripherals will need their own adapters or docks.

Will my existing DDR3 SODIMM modules work if I want to expand the 8 GB already installed?

The system uses DDR3 memory, so compatible DDR3 SODIMM sticks can be added up to the platform limit.
