Business Ultrabook for Mobile Professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5" business ultrabook built for professionals who need a durable, lightweight system. It ships new with Windows 7 Professional, an Intel Core i7-4600U processor, 8GB DDR3 memory and a 500GB solid-state drive. The HD IPS display runs at 1366 x 768 resolution. MIL-SPEC testing and a carbon-fibre roll cage reinforce the chassis for travel.

Sustained Load Behaviour

The dual-core i7-4600U reaches up to 3.3 GHz, yet its ultra-low voltage design keeps thermals manageable inside the thin chassis. Under continuous workloads the processor maintains steady clocks rather than peaking briefly, so office suites, web apps and video calls stay responsive. The spill-resistant, backlit keyboard and SSD storage further reduce latency during long sessions.

Deciding Specification

The 12.5" 1366 x 768 HD IPS panel sets the visual workspace; buyers who need more pixels or a larger screen for multi-window work should look elsewhere. Touch input is not supported, and only two USB ports plus Bluetooth 4.0 are provided for peripherals. Memory is fixed at 8GB DDR3 with no expansion slot mentioned.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the Core i7-4600U get under continuous load?

The 15 W dual-core processor runs cool and quiet for typical office work; sustained heavy tasks will spin the fan but the carbon-fibre chassis dissipates heat well.

Which ports and peripherals do I need to connect right away?

Two USB ports, a headset jack and Bluetooth 4.0 are built in; add a monitor via the Mini DisplayPort and a wired network through a USB-Ethernet adapter.

Can I keep using my VGA projector with this 12.5" HD IPS display?

The 1366 x 768 panel has no native VGA; use a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter to mirror or extend to the older projector.
