Lenovo ThinkPad X240 Business Ultrabook

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5" business ultrabook built around an Intel Core i7-4600U processor with a base frequency of up to 3.3 GHz. It ships with 8GB DDR3 memory and a 256GB solid-state drive. The HD IPS panel delivers a 1366 x 768 resolution on a non-touch display. Windows 8.1 Pro is pre-installed.

Check compatibility before ordering

Verify that your existing peripherals work with the two USB ports and the single headphone/microphone combo jack. Bluetooth 4.0 is available for wireless accessories. The system has no optical drive and no HDD bay, so external storage or cloud sync will be needed for additional capacity. Ensure your software licences are compatible with Windows 8.1 Pro.

Suits mobile professionals needing durability

This ultrabook suits professionals who value MIL-SPEC tested ruggedness, a spill-resistant backlit keyboard, and a carbon-fibre roll cage in a lightweight 12.5" form factor. It is not for users who require a touchscreen, higher display resolution, or more than two USB ports. Buyers needing greater internal storage expansion or a dedicated graphics solution should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box and what must I buy separately?

The laptop ships with Windows 8.1 Pro, an Intel Core i7-4600U processor, 8GB DDR3 memory, a 256GB SSD, a 12.5" HD IPS display at 1366x768, Bluetooth 4.0, two USB ports, a headphone/microphone combo jack, a backlit spill-resistant keyboard and a fingerprint reader. No optical drive is included.

Should I choose the 256GB SSD or a larger drive?

This unit is configured with a 256GB solid-state drive. If you need more local storage, you would have to add an external drive or replace the internal SSD yourself.

What does the 3.3 GHz figure mean in daily use?

The Core i7-4600U can boost up to 3.3 GHz for short bursts, so single-threaded tasks such as opening apps or loading web pages feel snappy, while sustained workloads run at lower clocks to manage heat in the ultrabook chassis.
