Ultrabook for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5-inch business ultrabook built for frequent travel. It runs Windows 7 Professional on an Intel Core i7-4600U processor with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a 128GB solid-state drive. The FHD IPS touch display resolves at 1920 x 1080 and includes a fingerprint reader for secure login.

Silent operation and low heat

The carbon-fibre roll cage and MIL-SPEC tested chassis dissipate heat passively during typical office workloads. With only two USB ports and Bluetooth 4.0 active, the system draws minimal power and the fan often remains idle. A spill-resistant backlit keyboard adds practical durability without adding thermal load.

Sustained productivity on battery

Under continuous multi-tasking the i7-4600U maintains clocks up to 3.3 GHz while the SSD keeps data access consistent. The 128GB capacity limits large local datasets, so users working with heavy media libraries will need external storage. Battery life supports a full workday of document editing and video calls.

Questions about this item

How do I install an additional drive in the ThinkPad X240, and which step is often missed?

Remove the bottom cover, insert the drive into the internal slot at a slight angle, press it flat, and secure the single screw — the step most people skip is pressing the drive fully down before tightening the screw.

What maintenance or replacement will the X240 need later?

The internal battery will eventually lose capacity and require replacement; the DDR3 memory and 128GB SSD can also be swapped if more capacity is needed.

What limit appears first during sustained heavy workloads on the i7-4600U?

The 3.3 GHz turbo frequency drops as the ultralight chassis reaches its thermal ceiling, so sustained performance settles at the base clock.
