ThinkPad X240 ultrabook for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5 inch business ultrabook built for professionals who need a durable, lightweight Windows 7 Pro machine. It combines an Intel Core i7-4600U processor with 8GB DDR3 RAM and a 128GB solid-state drive. The HD IPS touch display supports finger input for direct interaction.

Simple setup with sealed memory and older OS

The laptop arrives ready to use with Windows 7 Professional pre-installed, so there is no operating system installation required. The 8GB DDR3 memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded, which limits future expansion. The 128GB SSD is replaceable but uses a form factor that may require a specific drive type. Bluetooth 4.0 connects peripherals wirelessly without extra hardware.

128GB SSD and 8GB RAM suit light workloads

The 128GB solid-state drive provides fast boot and application launch for core business apps and a modest document library. The 8GB DDR3 memory handles typical multitasking such as email, web browsing and office suites comfortably. Storage runs out quickly with large media files or local databases. Memory headroom is fixed at 8GB, so heavy virtualisation or large datasets will exceed capacity.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the Core i7-4600U is reaching its 3.3 GHz boost after setup?

Open Task Manager's Performance tab and watch the CPU frequency climb toward 3.3 GHz during a heavy workload; the processor is rated for that maximum turbo speed.

What accessories come in the box and what must I source separately?

The laptop arrives with the 128 GB SSD, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, Windows 7 Professional, Bluetooth 4.0, backlit keyboard and fingerprint reader already installed; only a power adapter or dock would be extra.

Which configuration suits me — the 128 GB SSD with 8 GB RAM or a larger drive?

The listed unit is fixed at 128 GB SSD and 8 GB DDR3; choose it if that capacity matches your workload, otherwise look for a different SKU with more storage.
