Lenovo ThinkPad X240 Business Ultrabook

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5 inch business ultrabook built for professionals who need a durable, portable Windows 8.1 Pro device. It combines an Intel Core i7-4600U processor with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a 500GB hard drive. The HD IPS display offers a 1366 x 768 resolution in a non-touch format.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This ultrabook suits mobile workers who value MIL-SPEC tested ruggedness, a spill-resistant backlit keyboard, and a fingerprint reader for secure login. Bluetooth 4.0 supports wireless peripherals. Buyers who want more storage speed than a mechanical drive provides, a touchscreen interface, or a higher resolution panel should look at other models.

Capacity and headroom: what it comfortably handles

The 8GB DDR3 memory and dual-core processor up to 3.3 GHz handle office applications, web browsing, and video conferencing smoothly. The 500GB hard drive stores large document libraries and local backups. Heavy multitasking with many browser tabs or large datasets will hit the memory ceiling, and the mechanical drive limits boot and load times compared to solid-state storage.
