Compact NOAA Weather Radio

The LIJIANI RD218wb receives AM, FM and NOAA weather bands in a 4.9 by 2.7 by .8 inch black case that fits in a pocket or bag. It runs on two AA batteries and delivers one watt of audio through a built-in speaker or the stereo earphone jack. A backlit LCD shows the frequency and band, while luminous buttons make controls easy to find in the dark.

Suits listeners who want storm alerts

The seven preset weather channels sound an alarm and flash the backlight when a 1050 Hz alert tone is detected, so campers, hikers and household emergency kits stay warned without constant monitoring. Three quick presets and thirty stored stations let frequent listeners jump to favourites instantly. Buyers needing shortwave, single-sideband or aviation bands will not find them here, and anyone who prefers rechargeable or hand-crank power should consider a different model.

NOAA alert with automatic alarm and backlight flash

When the alert function is active the radio monitors silently until the 1050 Hz signal arrives, then turns on, sounds the alarm and flashes the screen backlight to draw immediate attention. This single feature determines whether the RD218wb matches a buyer's emergency-readiness requirements.

Questions about this item

How loud does the 1-watt speaker get in a typical room?

The built-in 1-watt speaker delivers clear audio for personal listening or a small room; it is not designed for large-area coverage.

What does the NOAA alert tone at 1050 Hz actually do?

When the alert function is on, the radio monitors for the 1050 Hz signal, then sounds an alarm and flashes the backlight to warn of severe weather.

Will the 4.9 by 2.7 by 0.8-inch case fit in a shirt pocket?

Yes, the slim 0.8-inch depth lets it slide into most shirt pockets, handbags or small backpack compartments.
