Wireless print server for parallel printers
The Linksys WPS11 connects a printer with an LPT port to a network using IEEE 802.11b wireless at 11Mbps or wired Ethernet at 10/100Mbps. It removes the need for a dedicated PC to act as a print server. The unit operates on the 2.4 GHz band with a range up to 1500 feet indoors or 300 feet outdoors. Management is performed through a web browser on any networked computer.
Build integration with legacy and modern networks
The device supports IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.3u and IEEE 1284 standards, allowing it to sit on both wired and wireless segments simultaneously. Its LPT interface serves older laser, ink jet, bubble jet, colour and dot matrix printers that lack built-in networking. A 256 KB RAM buffer handles graphics data while 512 KB flash memory stores firmware for future upgrades. No extra print-server software is required on client machines running Windows 95 through XP.
Sustained operation with browser-based control
The stand-alone design means the server manages print queues independently without relying on a host computer to stay powered on. Web-based management lets administrators monitor status and adjust settings remotely during continuous use. CSMA/CD protocol handling coordinates access on shared Ethernet segments. The compact 4.8 by 3.7 by 1.2 inch enclosure weighs 8.5 ounces and draws power from an external supply, keeping heat and noise low during long print runs.

Questions about this item
How many megabytes per second can the 11Mbps wireless link sustain when the print server runs all day?
The 802.11b wireless interface is rated at 11Mbps; real-world throughput will be lower and varies with distance and interference.
Does the WPS11 produce audible fan noise or noticeable heat during continuous operation?
The unit has no fan and draws little power, so it runs silently and stays cool during extended use.
What port must my printer provide to connect to the LPT interface on this print server?
Your printer needs a standard IEEE 1284 parallel port (LPT) to plug directly into the WPS11.
