What it does and who it's for

This adapter cable converts a USB-C Power Delivery source into a 4.5x3.0mm barrel connector for Dell laptops rated at 65W or below. It suits owners of compatible XPS ultrabooks who want to charge from a modern USB-C PD wall charger instead of the original barrel supply.

Capacity and headroom

The cable passes up to 20V at 3A, matching the 65W ceiling of supported Dell models. It will not deliver enough power for laptops that require more than 65W, so higher-wattage machines will not charge or will drain under load.

Thermals, noise and power draw

Passive construction means no fan noise and no active cooling requirement. The cable itself adds negligible resistance, so the USB-C charger determines overall efficiency and heat output during normal charging.

Questions about this item

Will this cable let me keep using my 65W USB-C PD charger with an older Dell XPS 13 that has a 4.5x3.0mm barrel port?

Yes. The female USB-C end accepts any 65W or higher USB-C Power Delivery charger, and the male 4.5x3.0mm tip plugs directly into compatible Dell XPS 12 and XPS 13 ultrabooks.

How can I confirm the converter is delivering the correct 18.5V-20V at 3A to my laptop?

The laptop's charging LED will light and the battery icon will show it is charging; if the charger supports PD, it will negotiate 20V at up to 3A automatically.

Does the package include a USB-C wall charger or only the converter cable itself?

Only the converter cable is included — one USB-C female to Dell 4.5x3.0mm DC tip cable. A 65W or higher USB-C PD charger must be purchased separately.
