What this adapter does

The Logitech 980-000910 adds Bluetooth 1.1 connectivity to a desktop PC through a USB port. It lets you stream audio wirelessly to compatible headphones or speakers without internal hardware changes. The device supports legacy Windows versions from 98SE through 2003 Server and Mac OS X with Apple-supplied drivers.

Practical limits of Bluetooth 1.1

The adapter uses the Bluetooth 1.1 specification, which caps data throughput far below later versions. Its quoted operating range reaches 100 metres in open space, but real-world distance drops with walls or interference. Security relies on 128-bit encryption built into the standard, not on newer pairing methods.

When the upgrade makes sense

This adapter suits owners of older desktops that lack any wireless capability and need basic audio streaming to a single device. It does not serve users who want faster file transfers, multi-device pairing, or compatibility with modern Bluetooth headsets that require newer protocol revisions.

Questions about this item

Which version of this Bluetooth adapter should I choose for my desktop?

The 980-000910 model adds Bluetooth 1.1 capability to a USB desktop computer and includes Mac OS X driver support from Apple.

What does the 100 metre operating range mean when the adapter is installed in a real machine?

The 100m figure is the rated line-of-sight distance; obstacles and interference will lower the usable range in practice.

How does the Bluetooth 1.1 interface limit what I can connect?

Bluetooth 1.1 caps data throughput and profile support to the original specification, so only legacy audio and basic peripherals will work.
