  • Extends 2230 NVME drives to fit 2242 slots
  • Extends 2230 SATA NGFF drives to fit 2242 slots
  • Compatible with ThinkPad X270 X280 T470 T480 L480 T580 models
  • Pure signal pass-through with no protocol conversion
  • Bare PCB adapter supplied without an SSD

Adapter purpose and compatibility

This adapter extends a 2230 M.2 socket to accept a 2242 SSD. It supports NVMe to NVMe or SATA to SATA extensions without protocol conversion. The PCB is designed for ThinkPad X270, X280, T470, T480, L480 and T580 models that use 2242 drives. No SSD is included with the card.

What the bundle changes

The package contains only the extension PCB, so buyers must supply their own 2242 NVMe or SATA drive. Because the adapter does not translate between NVMe and SATA, the installed SSD must match the host interface. This keeps the upgrade path straightforward for compatible ThinkPad systems.

Suitable buyers and limits

The card suits owners of the listed ThinkPad laptops who need to install a longer 2242 SSD into a 2230 slot. It will not help users who want to convert between NVMe and SATA protocols. Builders requiring a different M.2 keying or form factor should look for a dedicated adapter.

Questions about this item

Will the adapter itself need replacement after repeated SSD swaps?

The adapter is a passive PCB with no moving parts; it does not wear out from normal insertion cycles.

What stops me from using a longer 2242 drive in a 2230 slot continuously?

The physical length limit of the 2230 socket — only 30 mm of space exists beyond the connector.

Does the adapter add heat or power draw when the SSD runs all day?

No active components are present, so the board adds negligible thermal load or power consumption.
