Bare-PCB CFast 2.0 Adapter
This bare printed-circuit board connects a CFast 2.0 card to a host computer through a USB-C or USB-A port. It is aimed at photographers and video professionals who need direct access to CFast media without a full enclosure. The VL716 chipset handles the translation between the card and the USB interface. No driver installation is required on supported operating systems.
Replacing Bulky Card Readers
The adapter replaces larger desktop readers or dock stations when desk space is limited or when a portable solution is preferred. It upgrades workflows that previously relied on slower USB 3.0 card readers by offering a 10Gbps data rating. The jump is worth it when transfer speed becomes the bottleneck during offload. It does not accept legacy CompactFlash cards or CFexpress media.
Sustained Transfer Behaviour
Because the board has no enclosure or active cooling, sustained throughput depends on the host port's thermal limits and the CFast card's own write endurance. Hot-swap support functions only when the connected USB-C or USB-A port implements that feature. Performance under continuous load will vary with ambient temperature and the specific media used.

Questions about this item
Does the open PCBA need any special bracket to sit inside a desktop case?
The board is supplied without an enclosure, so it simply plugs into a free USB-C or USB-A port; no mounting bracket is required.
What is the correct way to insert a CFast 2.0 card so the VL716 chipset detects it?
Align the card with the connector keying and push straight in until it seats firmly; forcing it at an angle is the step most users get wrong.
Will the VL716 controller or the USB-C/USB-A connectors need any firmware updates or cleaning over time?
The adapter is OS independent and driverless, so no firmware updates are needed; occasional contact cleaning with compressed air keeps the connectors reliable.
