FT232RL USB-to-serial cable for Galileo Gen2
This cable uses the FT232RL chip to provide a USB-to-UART bridge at 3.3 V logic levels. It is intended for developers and hobbyists who need a console or programming link to a Galileo Gen2 board or similar 3.3 V targets.
Six-pin 2.54 mm housing with labelled leads
The 0.1 inch 1×6 female connector breaks out GND, CTS, VCC at 5 V, TXD, RXD and RTS on colour-coded wires. This pinout matches the ttl-232r-3v3 specification so the cable plugs straight onto the board header without an adapter.
Driver install from the chip vendor site
The FT232RL supports both VCP and D2XX drivers, plus EEPROM re-write and Mprog 3.5 for Vendor ID changes. Installation requires a manual download from the official FT232RL website; missing or mismatched drivers are the most common cause of a non-enumerating port.

Questions about this item
Will the 6 ft cable or the 0.1 inch pitch 6-pin housing need replacement after heavy use?
The cable is a fixed 6 ft length with a moulded USB connector; the 0.1 inch pitch 6-pin female housing is soldered to the wire ends, so neither part is user-replaceable.
What electrical limit appears first when the FT232RL chip drives continuous UART traffic at 3.3 V?
The FT232RL supplies 3.3 V TTL levels and draws bus power from USB; sustained throughput is limited by the chip’s internal UART buffer and the USB 2.0 bulk endpoint bandwidth.
How much heat or noise does the adapter produce when left plugged in all day?
The FT232RL draws only USB bus power, has no fan or moving parts, and runs silently with barely perceptible warmth during continuous operation.
