Three-Drawer Lateral File for Office Filing

The Lorell 88027 is a 36-inch wide lateral file with three drawers designed for side-to-side hanging of letter, legal or A4 folders. Each drawer includes a magnetic label holder and runs on ball-bearing slides for smooth operation. A core-removable lock and dual locking bars secure the contents, while an interlock system prevents more than one drawer opening at once. Four adjustable leveling guides and a counterweight keep the cabinet stable on uneven floors.

Upgrade from Smaller Vertical Cabinets

Moving from a two-drawer vertical unit to this three-drawer lateral model adds a full drawer of capacity without increasing the footprint depth. The wider drawers let you file side-to-side, which reduces the need to stand and reach into deep front-to-back drawers. The jump is worth it when your current cabinet is full and you want faster visual scanning of folder tabs across a wider face.

Suits High-Volume Paper Workflows

This cabinet suits offices that handle large volumes of paper and need secure, organised storage at desk height. The reinforced base and ANSI/BIFMA compliance support daily heavy use in shared environments. Buyers who need fire-rated protection or electronic locking should look at specialised safes instead. Teams that have already moved to fully digital workflows will find the physical capacity unnecessary.

Questions about this item

What clearance is needed for the 36" wide cabinet with four adjustable leveling guides?

Allow at least 36" of width and 18" of depth for the cabinet footprint; the four adjustable leveling guides let you level it on uneven floors without extra shims.

How do the ball-bearing slide suspension and interlock system work together during installation?

Mount the cabinet level using the adjustable guides, then load files evenly; the ball-bearing slides open smoothly while the interlock prevents a second drawer from opening until the first is fully closed.

When should the core-removable lock core be replaced or rekeyed?

Replace or rekey the lock core if a key is lost, staff changes, or the core becomes stiff; the removable core lets a locksmith swap it without removing the cabinet.
