Three-drawer lateral file cabinet

The Lorell 88031 is a black steel lateral file with three drawers that accept letter, legal and A4 folders side-to-side. Magnetic label holders on each drawer front allow quick identification of contents. A core-removable lock and dual locking bars secure the entire unit, while an interlock mechanism prevents more than one drawer from opening at once for stability.

Offices needing high-density filing in limited

Suits workplaces that store large volumes of paperwork and want a single cabinet footprint of 42 wide by 18.6 deep. Not suited for buyers who need fire-rated protection, mobile pedestals that roll under a desk, or vertical files that fit in narrower alcoves.

Three drawers with side-to-side rails

Each drawer runs on ball-bearing slides and includes hanging rails for letter, legal or A4 files, so capacity is determined by the three-drawer lateral layout. The cabinet meets applicable ANSI/BIFMA standards and includes four adjustable leveling glides plus a counterweight to prevent tipping.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the interlock and counterweight are working after assembly?

Open one drawer fully — the interlock should block the other two — then release it and verify the cabinet does not tip when the loaded drawer is extended.

What hardware and accessories are included versus sold separately?

The unit ships fully assembled with hanging file rails for letter, legal and A4, magnetic label holders, core-removable lock with two keys, dual locking bars, ball-bearing slides and four adjustable leveling glides; no extra parts are required.

Which drawer configuration should I choose for mixed letter and legal files?

The three drawers each accept letter, legal and A4 sizes simultaneously, so a single 88031 handles mixed formats without needing a different model.
