Sixteen-port SAS HBA with dual SAS3008 controllers delivering 12 Gb/s per lane over PCIe 3.0 x8 using four SFF-8643 connectors, flashed to IT mode firmware P16 for ZFS, TrueNAS and unRAID
This LSI 9300-16i host bus adapter provides sixteen 12Gb/s SAS lanes through four SFF-8643 connectors. It connects SAS or SATA drives via a PCI-E 3.0 x8 interface using dual SAS3008 controllers. The card arrives flashed to IT mode firmware P16 with MPT and UEFI BIOS for direct drive access in ZFS, TrueNAS or unRAID environments.
The supplier notes this is a high-performance card that runs hot and requires strong airflow over its heatsink to avoid failure or reliability loss. No power-draw figure or fan specification is supplied so builders must ensure their chassis delivers adequate cooling without guidance on exact wattage or thermal limits.
Flashing to IT mode removes RAID abstraction and presents disks directly to the operating system, which is required for ZFS and similar filesystems. Four SFF-8643 ports accept compatible breakout cables for SAS or SATA drives; cables are not included and no management software bundle is mentioned.

Insert the card into a PCI-E 3.0 x8 slot, secure the bracket, then attach Mini SAS HD cables from each SFF-8643 connector to your SAS or SATA backplane; the step most often missed is ensuring strong airflow over the heatsink because the dual SAS3008 controllers run hot.
The main ongoing task is keeping the heatsink dust-free so the SAS3008 chips stay cool; no battery or capacitor module is present, and the P16 IT mode firmware is already flashed, so further updates are only needed if a specific issue arises.
The PCI-E 3.0 x8 host link caps aggregate throughput at roughly 64 Gb/s, so sustained full-speed traffic on all sixteen 12 Gb/s lanes will saturate the bus before the SAS3008 controllers do.
