LSI 9300-8i HBA with IT Mode

The LSI 9300-8i is a 12Gbps SAS host bus adapter built around the SAS3008 controller. It connects through a PCI E 3.0 slot and presents eight internal lanes via two Mini-SAS HD SFF8643 ports. The card ships in HBA IT mode firmware, exposing drives directly to the operating system without RAID abstraction. Two SFF-8643 to SATA cables are included for immediate drive connectivity.

Suited for ZFS and unRAID storage builds

This adapter fits systems running ZFS on FreeNAS or TrueNAS Core, as well as unRAID arrays that benefit from direct drive control. It is not intended for hardware RAID configurations because the IT mode firmware disables RAID functions. Builds requiring boot RAID volumes or proprietary RAID management should select a different controller.

PCI E 3.0 host interface decides compatibility

The card requires an available PCI E 3.0 slot, which also accepts PCI E 2.0 or newer slots at their respective speeds. Two internal SFF8643 connectors provide the only drive attachment points, so chassis backplanes or drive cages must match this interface. The 12Gbps SAS link speed supports SAS and SATA drives at up to that rate per lane.
