Green circuit board low-profile PCIe card with four external SAS ports

LSI

LSI 9305-16e 16-Port SAS 12Gb/s PCIe 3.0 HBA network card

SKU CH-Q4ZA-6DC0V

Provides 16 external SAS 12Gb/s connections via PCIe 3.0 with over 1.5 million IOPS

  • 16 external SAS ports for massive storage scaling
  • 12 Gb/s SAS throughput for high-speed data transfer
  • PCIe 3.0 x8 host interface for modern server compatibility
  • Over 1.5 million IOPS for demanding workloads
  • Single-chip low-profile design fits dense chassis

16-Port SAS 12Gb/s HBA

The LSI 9305-16e is a single-chip host bus adapter built for large-scale, data-intensive workloads. It connects up to 16 external drives directly or scales further through expanders using a PCIe 3.0 interface. This low-profile card targets tiered storage deployments and multi-enclosure architectures.

Suits external storage arrays.

Administrators managing multiple external JBODs or tape libraries gain 16 direct SAS lanes and high IOPS throughput. Systems limited to internal drive bays or lacking low-profile brackets cannot use the external connectors. Workloads requiring internal RAID-on-chip features should evaluate dedicated RAID controllers instead.

1.5 million IOPS headroom for mission-critical apps

The adapter sustains over 1.5 million input-output operations per second across its 12Gb/s SAS links. Performance scales linearly with attached enclosures until the PCIe 3.0 bus saturates. Extremely latency-sensitive databases may require faster bus generations not provided by this generation.

Questions about this item

What PCIe slot version and width does the LSI 9305-16e need to run at full 12Gb/s SAS speed?

The card requires a PCIe 3.0 slot. It is a low-profile adapter designed for external SAS connectivity.

Can the 9305-16e connect to older 6Gb/s SAS enclosures and drives without issues?

Yes, the SAS 12Gb/s interface is backward compatible with 6Gb/s and 3Gb/s SAS devices.

How can I verify the adapter is delivering the rated 1.5 million IOPS after installation?

Monitor IOPS using storage benchmark tools or OS performance counters while the 16 external ports are under load.
