Multi-format card reader for photographers

The LUOM CR7A combines seven memory-card slots in a single USB 3.0 hub, accepting CF, SD, SDXC, SDHC, microSD, MS, M2, TF and XD Picture Card formats. Each slot has its own green LED to show activity. The unit is plug-and-play on Windows and macOS, requiring no driver installation, and supports hot-swapping so cards can be changed without rebooting.

Replaces multiple single-slot adapters

Instead of carrying separate readers for CompactFlash, Secure Digital, Memory Stick and xD media, this device consolidates them into one compact unit. The USB 3.0 interface delivers up to 5 Gbps throughput, roughly ten times the 480 Mbps ceiling of USB 2.0, so large RAW batches or high-bitrate video move noticeably faster. Up to five cards can be mounted simultaneously, though the supplier notes that concurrent reads will reduce per-card speed.

Limited by USB 3.0 host and card capabilities

Actual transfer rates depend on the host controller, cable quality and the speed class of the inserted media; the 5 Gbps figure is the interface maximum, not a sustained guarantee. The reader draws power from the USB port, so very high-current cards may need a powered hub on laptops with restricted port output. No OTG cable is included for direct mobile use, and the single USB-A connector means USB-C hosts require an adapter.

Questions about this item

Does the CR7A need an external power adapter or does it run from the USB port?

It draws power from the USB 3.0 connection and requires no separate adapter.

What is the correct way to insert a card so the LED lights up?

Match the card orientation to the slot — front and back must be aligned for chip contact — then push until seated; the green LED for that slot will stay on when ready.

If a slot stops reading cards, what part should be checked first?

Inspect the USB 3.0 cable and port for debris or damage; the reader has no user-serviceable internals.
