MacBook dual-C hub

The LUOM PB-8945 adds seven ports through two USB-C plugs that fit 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro models from 2016 to 2020 plus MacBook Air models from 2018 to 2020. It supplies HDMI video, Thunderbolt 3 passthrough, a data-only USB-C port, two USB 3.0 ports and SD and microSD card slots. The aluminium body matches the MacBook finish and requires no driver installation.

Thermals and power

The hub operates between 0 °C and 70 °C with humidity up to 80 % non-condensing and shows a power and activity LED. Thunderbolt 3 passthrough delivers up to 100 W input so the host can receive 87 W while every port is active. Each USB 3.0 port can supply 1.5 A for bus-powered peripherals without an external adapter.

Bundled capabilities

The HDMI port drives an external display at 4K 30 Hz or 1080p 60 Hz with HDCP 1.4 and 2.2 support. Thunderbolt 3 carries 40 Gb/s data and can drive two 4K 60 Hz monitors downstream. Card readers accept SD and microSD cards up to 2 TB capacity at speeds up to 104 MB/s. The second USB-C port handles data only at 5 Gb/s and does not carry video or charging. Buyers who need video from the second USB-C port or faster than 5 Gb/s on the USB-A ports cannot use this hub for those tasks.

Questions about this item

How do I connect the dual USB-C plug so both Thunderbolt 3 and power delivery work on my 15-inch MacBook Pro?

Align the side-by-side USB-C connectors with the two adjacent Thunderbolt 3 ports on the 15-inch model; the dock draws 100W input and passes up to 87W to the laptop while all ports stay active.

Will the SD and microSD card slots need a driver update or firmware flash later?

No driver or firmware is required; the reader supports cards up to 2TB at 104MB/s and works natively on macOS and Windows Vista through Windows 10.

What thermal limit appears first when I run 4K video and heavy file transfers together?

The operating range tops out at 70 °C; sustained 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3 traffic plus 5Gbps USB 3.0 loads can push the aluminum chassis to that ceiling before any port throttles.
